All the food I put out last night has gone.

I noticed half had gone by 11pm so went out with a torch, but didn't see any.

One day I'll see him / her, or hopefully, THEM.

NL, I love that red border.

Sounds as if you're getting two contingents Hosta - that's what seems to happen here image

  • Those that are providing food for them at this time of year:

Are you doing this regularly and all year round?

Why?   Is it to attract them to your garden or because you think there's not enough food for them or another reason e.g. the one you've seen is tiny or looks unwell?

Hopefully supplementing what they're already getting.

I put food out all year round especially in the winter when their natural food manot be around.Apparently hedgehogs are not dependent on extra food from humans but they still see it as an easy meal!

  • NorthernLass, we feed all year round. What the pigs don't eat, the birds clear up in the morning!

We feed all year round too - when we moved here four years ago a considerable amount of hog habitat had to be cleared for structural work and along with that of course went a lot of their natural food.

Since then we've made 'hedgehog gates' in our new fences, planted more 'undergrowth' and creatied log piles, heaps of dried sticks and leaves and  we provide fresh clean rainwater and food every evening - four years later we have more hogs visiting regularly than when we first came here.

One of the chaps was in the garden when I let the dog out, she went to say hi but I didn't capture that. They aren't bothered by her as she leaves them alone.

Why aren't they hibernating?   Do you live somewhere hot?
