  • We've got red squirrels and otters image .

Both of which I absolutely love to see.   We're in a red squirrel protection scheme and have put up quite a few boxes for them.

There's not much I don't like so long as everything is in balance then nothing troubles me either.

In terms of birds... again I'd struggle to select just one.   I love the birds of prey and am particularly fond of goshawks and the peregrine falcon.   I really like wrens and goldcrest but then I like pretty much all of the song birds.

Not entirely true; the local otters fish under the bridge in the centre of town in the early morning.

Well I was going to say the brown rat (they're so cute!!) but alas...they are not native.

So I'll have to say the otter also. When I was a wee lad, I travelled with my parents to the Scottish highlands on a number of occasions, visiting Gavin Maxwell's location at Sandaig. I had read Ring of Bright Water too Dove...and knew the story of Mijbil and Edal. Being only 10 at the time it was an evocative location and remains so (smiley face).

That has reminded me - Black Beauty, always made me cry. Why didn't I think of ponies? I had a New Forest pony when I was young. But I love Dartmoor ponies.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Hedgehogs although I haven't seen any this year. I have a soft spot for a seagull who has taken to me - she has been visiting for around 5 years and is pretty tame - follows me round the garden on foot chatting. I try not to encourage her but she certainly has personality.

Hedgehogs and red squirrels for me I think. Unfortunately they get run over on so many roads - I've noticed it more this year as I've been driving more. image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
