Nothing like coming to the gardening forum for some cooking advice
I have just brought in the last of my apples and blackberries before the birds steal them all. I was going to make a crumble (that's the limit of my cooking skills) but then I remembered that we currently haven't got an oven! New one won't be here for another 2-3 weeks. We do have a hob though so could someone advise me what is the best way to prepare and freeze these fruits so I can make crumble once the new oven is working? Thanks
Just put the sliced apples and blackberries in a pan with a very little water and sugar to taste and simmer gently until beginning to soften. Put into the dish and allow to cool. Top with the crumble mix, cover with foil, clingfilm and freeze.
When you have your oven working remove the dish from the freezer, allow it to come to room temperature then cook as normal.
Enjoy

Just made crumbles with apples and blackberries from the plot. I cook the fruit in the microwave for 3 minutes.( Add porridge oats, and linseed to the topping, for health,) doesnt take so long to cook in the oven then.

A bit of both! The blackberries are huge - bigger than the top section of my thumb! And the apples are a bit pathetic but quite tasty.

Thanks Dove - that sounds so simple that I'm sure that even I can't mess that up
I'm sure it'll be lovely - custard or cream?

Harvested a few more mega blackberries today and made a class of 'Ribena' - yum.
