    Ah Fishy65,

You have succumbed to the addiction that is gardening. There is always one more plant, one more packet of seeds. You swear that next year you will be sensible but end up with more than ever and a greenhouse that is toooooo small. There should be a helpline but there isn't. I guess your lawn is doomed.

I'm the same the only option we had left was potting some up and make hanging baskets and gave them to family. You could make some up and take them to your local car boot sale and make a few quid

In this area there seem to village Open Gardens / Fetes / Plant Sales etc every weekend from April to August. They nearly always have a plant stall and gratefully receive any surplus plants - especially more mature or less common specimens. I would definitely dig out plants you don't like / don't earn their keep and pass those on along.

Monies raised from this events usually goes to charity / village funds.

Just do it Fishy. Life's too short. Reduce the lawn to a grid of grass paths, with large square beds formally edged in box to contain your luxuriant herbaceous planting. Allow for a min. 4x4m paved/grassed square or rectangle to comfortably place a couple of recliners, to sit and enjoy being surrounded by all that beauty. Preferably with a cold lager.

Clearly I'm not alone with this dilemma. Our neighbour has a big plant sale every year so some spares have already gone to her. Last night I pulled up some wallflowers that had gone over and replaced them with primroses which had been potted since last autumn.

Its a vicious circle isn't it, we have the urge to sow, to nurture new plants but there comes a time when we need to rein that in. There is only so much earth in which to accommodate our precious babies. It has to stop somewhere. Now where did I put those honesty seeds?
