Someone posted we are all born into our allowed place in life. If that was the case I would be living in a 2 up, 2 down terrace with an outside lavy, doffing my cap to my obvious betters. We didn't have a garden, only a concrete yard. Pah!
And my great grandfather who used to walk five miles to school and back in bare feet every day, carrying his shoes so they didn't wear out would never have become Mayor of Luton - I don't wish to offend anyone, but ........... poppycock and balderdash!!!
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Kings and Queens hold their position in life by the invitation and consent of the people. That is the very foundation of our constitutional monarchy, and a central plank of our history.
That's why the Queen's representative in Parliament, Black Rod, has the door shut in his face and he has to knock to be allowed into the House of Commons to summon them to the State Opening of Parliament - it signifies Parliament's independence from the monarchy/

just caught up with this thread. Gutted I've missed most of it but, as a life long republican, can't let it go without my contribution. I was enraged to discover yesterday that I was paying for a London flat for W and K, as well as a 10 bedroom country residence. How many bedrooms does one small family need? why is the bedroom tax principle not applied in this case? So much to say, but I fear the moment has passed and I must do some gardening. I am stilk feeling stressed from my visit to the local hustings in Lowestoft on Thursday night. Perhaps planting some freesias and gladioliis this morning might reduce the stress.
sorry folks, I know the discussion was tailing off but I just had to ... Well said, Verdun, btw.

Let's return to gardening.
I think the Windsors would make great manure.
I am bored with this thread, Verdun start it again this time praising the Royals so we can all disagree with you.

Don't encourage him Ashdale
He has too much time on his hands
guess a push mower instead of a tractor would do the trick
Verdun? Are you here?
He's started another thread. He's converted!
