Mail Order Plants - Where from?

  • Thanks Verdun, not sure whats locally but I know there is a Council run gardening place that I think sells compost etc, will investigate that.

Don't know on the mushroom farms, will check that too.

Sorry for the dumb question but how do I know what soil I have?

Oh how I wish I had seen this thread a year ago...we all learn the lesson that catalogues can look great but more often than not greater success is had out of plants chosen for your plot (sun/soil) from a smallish nursery with a few poly tunnels. I'm even going off garden centres now haha!

@Verdun would you really use your council compost? Cheap yes but I know what I send them and I can guess what others do....image

  • Gonna order the plants today, will test my soil PH though first.

Only problem is by asking Woottens about each plant probably not practical as I am ordering around £200 worth of plants so quite a lot of them.

Well, you could always put in the order and then ask them to email you if there are any that shouldn't be planted out immediately when you receive them image

I would certainly choose my compost carefully as it will affect all your plants, I think it's something worth spending a little more on.  I always buy from my local garden centre, but I'm lucky as I have a good one.
