I play the deaf old lady(funny how the truth will out) hung up without speaking once and a very abusive young man rang back again when I went to hang up on him bit unnerving so unplugged the phone for a while. I thought that they would stop with new rules what a con.
Most of the cold calls we get are made from automated diallers so there is a few seconds or so delay after you pick up the phone, gives you time to hang up. If someone wants to speak to me then they pick up the phone and dial, I answer they speak all is fine. If they dont speak its hung up. Ones that do get through are always obvious with a few more seconds of them saying anything and get hung up on too. It might be seen as rude to just hang up but, 1 I dont care! and 2 its saves their time and mine, and 3 I dont care!

Try the ACME THUNDERER cure ( referee's whistle ). One good blast works wonders.
I have one of the Truecall answer machines, no unwanted calls get through to my phone at all.
