cold callers

I am getting sick of these bloody cold callers wanting to give me cheaper energy deals, trying to convince me they can supply me with cheaper gas .I'm getting them every few days.and when I tell them I pay nothing for my gas they don't believe me .truth is they don't do there homework or they would see that the gas board in there generosity have not laid on gas , they didn't seem interested with us being as some what will say out in the sticks! Tight b*****s.

The last cold caller informed me that being ex directory only means I'm not in the yellow pages , but I'm still in the phone book !

I heard recently they were clamping down on firms trying to cold call .they are increasing with me of late .but they never say who they are phoning f for , which is wrong.

Can i report them still, ?

Advice please, I know they are only doing a job but when do they realise that No means No.? Sorry about the rant , don't usually go off on one like this ,but sort of annoyed !!!    annoyed !!!!

Are you talking about phone calls?

If so you should register your phones with the Telephone Preference Service

http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/index.html it takes a while for it to take effect but when it does you can report them if they are phoning from the UK.  It has hugely improved things for us, but I'm afraid they can't do anything about calls from abroad.  I usually just leave them talking to themselves and turn the radio up image

TPS is a good move. We had two lines, one was still dogged with cold callers. In the end my OH came up with the idea of calmly asking the company name and contact details of the MD of each company. When asked why he wanted this information it stated it was so he could send a bill to the company to cover the time wasted on each call answered. The conversations started to end remarkably quickly and the number of calls reduced drastically in a short space of time. image

We used to get alot, especially in the run up to Christmas. Since registering with TPS, we get very few and those that do ring are told we're on TPS, remove our details from their mailing list and don't call again. My OH does what GemmaJF's OH does.

Them "could I ask you who presently supplies your energy"? Me "yes that would be big John he comes around on his moped once a week, oh! you said energy, that would be British gas." Them "could I ask why you chose British gas"? Me "well I was looking for someone to supply me with gas and I live in Britain so they seemed to fit the bill." Them “ if I said that we could supply energy cheaper how would you feel"?  Me "I would feel the same but I would be getting my energy cheaper." Them "would you like to switch your energy supplier to us"? Me "no but can I ask who currently supplies your sarcasm and rejection because if you were to combine those two I could supply them both for the same price"? He hung up.

These calls are so annoying, especially if you are waiting for an important call.  The recorded ones are easy.  OH is considering changing banks because every time he makes a transaction he's called to rate how the experience wasimage.  My thinking is that if they think they are providing a good service why are they so worried.  If it's a bad experience we will let them know.

I tend to act deaf (unfortunately there are times that this may be trueimage)

Lift up the phone and repeatedly press the star or hash button. Automated calls think they have called a fax machine and take the number off the list - same for manual callers. Works for me as I get a lot less calls telling me about PPI and the like. In fact I hardly get any since doing that for a few months now image.

I get them in France too, I say I'm English and don't understand, then put the phone down. One woman rang back to say she had found someone who could speak to me in English about Solar Panels!

I've just had a call from a gentleman introducing himself as Ronald Williams from the National Highways Department - he had a pronounced Indian accent, not what I'd expect from someone with that name, but that's by the by - he told me that he'd been informed by the National Accident Database that someone from this address had reported an accident within the past 3 years - if I could confirm this he would pass my details to his colleague - I asked him what his colleague would do with my details but Mr Williams didn't know - fortunately I was unable to confirm that I'd had an accident in the past three years, but I had kept him talking for quite some time - he'd done some very heavy sighing when explaining things to this batty old woman LOL

I ask them to hold the line for thirty seconds or so and then say thank you for holding I have to record and pass all my calls to the police due to abusive calls.

I have never heard a phone put down so quick on so many ocasions

Apparently if they are doing a survey and not directly offering to sell or supply something, they do not have to check the TPS list, but I did discover that they get a black mark against them if they have to disconnect the call, apparently if you swear or put the phone down this is to be expected !, so if someone calls and asks if they are speaking to Mr or Mrs so and so or the lady/man of the house just respond with " no but hang on a minute ill get them for you ", put the phone on the side and carry on with what you were doing, after a couple of minutes they disconnect and the calls seem to now be very rare.
