Hi johngreen , I wish I had the space for some chickens and some pigs especially a micro pigs

  • Hello John and welcome. Visited Winnipeg for a few days back in 2010 when we went up to Churchill to see Polar Bears. I love Canada and all your wildlife. My first visit was up to Vancouver Island which was wonderful-you live in a wonderful place!

I don't have a big garden, but grow a lot of fruit and vegetables in pots. Our weather here in the North Staffordshire area is very cold. Had snow today, but I do have a greenhouse, so all of my plants are in there at the momentimage

last years garden, baron and full of weeds. hopefully not this year!

the picture is deceiving though, it makes the garden look smaller than it is. if you look close you can see the chickens on the right, there are sunflowers and tomatoes growing at the far edge but you can't see them

Ah yeah the polar bears. Never been up that far north myself. Not a lot of wildlife in my area, thank goodness though because my chickens are outside from 8am-dusk. Though There are snowy owls around here all winter. Beautiful birds! My brother and his wife live just about 9 miles or so from me and they have all kinds of critters at their place. Foxes, raccoons, a lot of snowy owls, and they have a flock of prairie chickens that have been hanging out at their place all winter. I've only seen prairie chickens here on one occasion.

Just east of where I am there is evergreen forest for miles, and that is black bear country. Beautiful but dangerous. Went fishing there two summers ago and saw a lot of wildlife there. The deer were right in the campgrounds, saw a beaver while i was casting my line out, a HUGE pelican flew right over us as we were fishing..it was great.

Great to see pictures of John 's place - we used to have a 9 acre smallholding - a wonderful life but a lot of hard work.

By the way, Prairie Chickens are a type of grouse.
