To Melspade & Bekkie Hughes just a tip about frost & spawn. A pond expert advised our gardening group recently just to push spawn down below the surface of the water to protect from expected frost. Good luck. I am in Eastbourne and although have seen a few frogs in my pond, no sign of spawn yet, very late as usually first spawn seen in January/February! Guess they know something we don't!
I'm in Wiltshire and haven't seen any either. I'm starting to worry. I put in the very small pond last May and by July I had a few frogs. I haven't seen any recently but I've seen some in other parts of the garden whilst slug hunting. The pond seems very healthy with the plants doing well and pond snails and crustaceans and all but no frogs. Lots of hidey-holes around it and a hibernium and open compost bin nearby. I'm hoping it's not too late and that they are passing on my pond.
Think there may be a bit of a population issue if all of this spawn make it to adulthood, theres already lots of frogs for a smallish garden, just been watching them hop around in the rain, it seems like the whole garden is hopping! For some reason a couple of them were trying to climb up the greenhouse door????
We now have a clump of new frog spawn but the other frog spawn has disappeared, will have dropped to the bottom of the pond? Just I put my hand in and try and find it?
What lucky pond owners you all are - mine is bare. I have boy frogs but they haven't been 'acourtin' yet. Daintiness - such an amazing picture. Another pond owner in my village has offered me some of her frog spawn - I just hope it will be OK in another environment. She is giving me some of her pond water too.
Mine was bare, yesterday, ( My POND that is ) but this arvo, when I went to check, it was seething with oh be joyful. Must have got the latest edition of 50 shades delivered !

Sometime between last night and this morning, success. It might be alcohol induced, I dunno, but they're still at it today !
Wow Peat B, that's a lot of frogspawn.
Frogs singing and spawning in my pond last spring
