The other day I tidied my pond edges, and later when I was mulching around a shrub I saw a big fat frog, which I assumed was pregnant. Today I went out and for the first time there was a lot of frogspawn all over. She must've been waiting for me to tidy up.
The males can be over amoro us, last year they mated in my daughters outside loo! also in one of those deep plastic trug thingys, never seen a dead female though.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
Northumberland.................... pond is ice bound. Titanic struggle to penetrate surface through 12mm thickness of bergs. Ever seen a frog on skates ?
Well we now have frog spawn in the pond thanks to a friend bringing it over today buuuuuut I checked the pond again just now and frighted a pair of frogs enjoying themselves so now I feel guilty that I disturbed them and they may not produce anything or if they do I feel guilty because theirs might have less of a chance because ive put more frog spawn in there, am I over thinking it?
Don't worry about it Stagbeetle, the females are so full for of eggs that developed over the winter months they are just dying to pop, the males couldn't care less about anything else if they have a female, they will spawn just fine.
Dosent it damage the spawn having all the frogs trampling it? Also its sticking out of the pond in heaps, wont it dry out? I suppose if theres that much then it dosent really matter!
it's been this way since the spawn of time. A l'il bit of amphibious spawnography di'n do any harm at all ! And STILL nothing, oop t'lotty. Must be the wrong magazines !
