Forrester, I'd love to say I'd landed badly after a charity parachute jump, but I spent 3 days on my knees building raised beds in  my polytunnel : and I've ripped the cartilage in my knee cap.

On a plus note: second batch of spawn now in pond. Might venture all the way down to lake to see what's there.

    Devon.

Tavistock, Devon, first frog spawn this morning.

  • Bekkie I wouldn't be worried BUT when they start becoming tadpoles, if you do end up with lots and lots I would tempted to feed them cat biscuits to increase their survival rate. Just three biscuits at first so they get the idea they are edible and then start adding more as they eat them.

Still no frogspawn  image I wonder where they are?

  • We have none here but I wouldn't have expected it this early anyway.

    Thanks Minos image

Ive fed them bread in the past, never thought of cat biscuits image

    Where do you live Minos?

Another question, why were all of the frogs almost black when they first appeared? Theres all sorts of shades and patterns on their skin now, is it the temprature? image
  • One batch of spawn in the Forest of Dean this weekend. However my pond has newts and many dragonflies larvae so have yet to see a froglet, the tadpoles all get eaten within weeks.

    Nice to see though.

Yep it is temperature Bekkie, in general the cooler it is, the darker they will appear.

Last year I fed them with dried flaked fish food, theres a feeding frenzy when you drop it in, also frozen Daphnea. I still only have the one clump, but then it is a new pond.
