Lily Pilly, thanks but those photos are a couple of years old. This summer, due to health problems I didn't achieve the same results having neglected the garden a little. But it I'm back on track and looking forward to getting the garden in shape next year.
Looking forward to the new changes LF. Take it easy with your back though
Which Clematis do you have in the planter? Perhaps it's just needing a bit of extra food. The Hydrangea will be nicking quite a bit. Is there any way you can put a divider across the middle of the planter - giving you two separate areas. That way, you can give each climber more individual attention. I did that with one of my raised beds - I had a plant needing quite damp conditions next to one which needed sharp drainage. They looked like they were in the same bed
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Farmyard manure would be worth adding too. You can get it in bags at GCs etc. Keeps the compost from drying out too much and helps give it a bit more oomph

Thats a good idea Fairygirl, thanks. I will also replace some of the compost next spring, and regularly add feed etc.
