here are those poorly peas. The runner beans behind have hardly any flowers and look quite curly. There were broad beans at the front but I took them out as they were so bad.
Fresh manure is a killer! I killed off a rose garden in my early gardening days by laying a thick(ish) mulch of manure around the plants. It was cow manure and it was way too fresh. I don't add manure straight to the garden now. I always pre-compost any that I get for at least 6 months just to be on the safe side.
Thanks Scroggin. gutted as I was really organised this year and sewed my own seeds, even built sturdy cane structure. Hey ho. You live and you learn! Better stock up on frozen peas!
Don't know what the plant is, but am intrigued about the fruit on the Akebia. I've had one growing on a fence for several years, no fruit yet.
Its 9.45pm and the Tour has only just started, happy to see one of our Australians leading the day. They even painted his bike yellow. Will be interesting to see how they get on when they get into the wind on the coast. long night ahead.
I built this up all on my own, nearly blew away with the cover lol. only things is theres nowhere to attach things to it, so i put in a couple of broken slabs to weigh it down, now i need to google what i can pot up in cuttings and seeds.
Went out to plant some things and ended up dead heading/tying in climbing roses and ripping ivy off a tree trunk and digging the root out the ground. It's about ten yrs old so wasn't easy.
Collected about 100 slugs and snails before landscaping tree base and finally planting my perennials. That lot took me roughly 6hrs
Located the first courgettes while watering the veg patch had them for dinner yum! Spotted a baby watermelon too... and when I say baby I mean Baby lol hope it does ok!
Charlie Novembe - thanks for that info about the Akebia. I'd never heard it before.
In my veggie bed I've got young Broccolini swiftly starting to form sprouting heads, but decided I couldn't wait, so tried steaming some of the bigger leaves and they were delicious. Good thing I've got plenty of plants. Also added some young silverbeet leaves and some of the bigger Jerusalem artichokes that I dug up a few days ago. Still deciding if it is worth the enjoyment of eating the artichokes against the after effects. I might give the rest of them to my next door neighbour for the goats, they won't mind.
it seems that very cold weather is moderating a bit as its only about 3 degrees this morning instead of minus 5 or 6.
