Well, this is fascinating!  I've been racking my brains but no, can't recall the older couple, Denise.  Sorry!

It might have been a local television production, in which case it would only have been broadcast in the particular region it was made for....LWT, Yorkshire TV, Granada TV, Anglia...of course nowadays a satellite dish means those with televisions can watch loads of channels but back then you didn't have that option.image

Harry Dodson and Ruth Mott, ably assisted by Peter Thoday, did Victorian Kitchen', Victorian Kitchen Garden' and 'Victorian Flower Garden' ( Ruth wasn't in the last one now I come to think...) but they were broadcast in the 1980's.

I hope someone can remember the programme!

Can't remember a wee mouse in a clay pot, either!

'PLANTS FOR FREE' That's what I was thinking of!

    Oh thank goodness for that!

  • I am also trying to find the name of an old gardening TV show from the early 90's...it featured a different gardener's garden each show and was hosted by a slim, blond woman named Erica who always wore a big floppy hat...she and the gardener would walk thru the plants and discuss them...

Was it Erica Glasener on 'A Gardener's Diary'? Was it based in the USA?

I too am looking for that show. The couple were English, but the show came from Ontario, Canada where they lived.  Can't remember the title of the show but think it was something like Country Garden.  Their last name was something like Edmond-White?  I know this late in the discussion.
  • I too have a question about an old gardening tv show. Since I found all the people who watched old gardening shows, please help me find the name. The only thing I remember about the show is the concept: They had ready made mini models of the plants and garden furnitures, they made a model of the existing garden and design with the home owner like a game. Do you remember that show?
  • I generally dislike it when people resurrect old threads but I think this is a special case as no one found the answer.

This is definitely the show the op was looking for:

    Previous Post.

Several years ago I watched a gardening program for absolute beginners showing the public what a spade was and really basic stuff
It was based in a large country house where they had an agricultural college in the north of England.
The presenter was an ex DJ and the show started with him hiding behind tomato plants in the greenhouse and creeping towards the camera.
It was so cringe worthy that it was compulsive watching.
He had an enormous assistant called John I think who missed his cues ( no pun intended ) What was the correct name of the show please ?

No one could assist back in April 2020.

I have contacted two TV companies but no success.

  • Sorry for "digging this one up" again, but I do remember the gardening program, it was from a ITV region and I used to watch it on a Sunday as a filler on Granada, It had a bossy lady in it, looked a bit posh and turned her nose up at most things, there was a tall ish man in it , he knew his stuff but wasnt Geoff Smith , might have been called John and most of all its one of the first programs I watch with Carol Klien appearing in it. I have done a search for Carols TV history but this program seems to have been wiped off the face of the earth?! It was almost a spoof at times with the posh lady looking down on what people had said! Yes it was before 2000, but my memory is started to fade with age....lol, c'mon somebody must know?!. Cheers

Fork to Fork?  Filmed with his wife Sarah and CK as a guest presenter?

Never saw it but heard about it when MD took on GW and brought in CK too.
