My friend's garden in inner city Bristol is usually one degree warmer than mine and it shows in the flowering of his plants. his alliums were a week earlier and now the roses from next door are flowering on his fence while mine are still in bud except for the occasional precocious one.
Such a grey wet, cold day today. Could be a November day except for the blaze of colour in the garden. Looks like a cold wet start to June this year. AAh there is a poem there - when flaming June disappears whom should we be blaming? I;ll work on it since I cannot see anything more interesting to be done today than finishing the window cleaning indoors i started yesterday. Nearly the end of the fifth month of my environmentally friendly gardening and I only slipped once by ordering some gerberas when i was having a solar light to be delivered anyway. Well no one is perfect.
In showers between the heavy showers this afternoon I just had to snap the brilliant sunshine through the boughs of my eucalyptus tree, the hellebores still flowering although the campanulas are now in flower , my black centaurea "Jordy" , my luscious herbs etc I did have to run in with my camera up my jumper to shield it from the rain..
Lovely pictures Marion, you Rhododendrons are looking good, mine is still in bud, it's blue sky here but looks like we have had a good poor down in the night, still I suppose it saves me having to water the garden, hope the weather cheers up for you Marion : ), my plants are being delivered today can't wait : )
A good weekend forecast for us in Bristol with rain mostly through the night. I hope you have the same for your new plants, flumpy. I have sunflowers, cosmos and aquilegias I have grown from seed for Mr. Fothergills trials that need to be planted out today or tomorrow as the forecast for Monday and Tuesday is not good. Inside the house is brighter now I have tackled the window cleaning while i could not get out gardening. It is an ill wind-
Did get some very tall sunflower plants in the ground and tied to their bamboo canes but finished gardening early to watch the FA Cup. My goodness some of the players looked like they should still be in school. Will tackle the cosmos and aquilegia tomorrow.
Only just come in from planting my new plants, still got 9 trays to go : ) looking forward to seeing your sunflowers keep them photos coming Marion : )
My goodness you have a lot of plants. that is going to be a wonderful show. Make sure you put out some organic slug pellets or at least some bran to fill the slugs up so they will not attack your new plants, flumpy. Such a lovely end to the day watching a super film on BBC2 "Quartet".

At last the rain has stopped but it is still cold. The garden however looks very inviting through the windows of the conservatory.
