It does though look like plant roots to me

I'm afraid it doesn't make much visual sense to me. Did you say it has leaves/ They would help in identification; perhaps a close up.

Have just tried to upload a photo, never tried before. Was not successful but possibly too many pixels(?) It may be better to use your camera on your mobile, fewer pixels than a digital camera?

  • Thanks sotogeoff. I have just changed the picture to include one of the leaves.

It looks like roots to me as well. Very much doubt if that's fungal.

I see leaves. Can't see what shape though. I have bindweed at the top of my list of probables.

Glad you haven't got dry rot.

  • I had a Virginnia creeper that got into the loft space.  The shoots on that looked very similar.  Maybe when a plant is deprived of light it sends out long shoots to try and find some and doesn't bother to grow leaves until it finds it.

Very much like that MF. We had bindweed way up in the timber frame at our previous house

  • Looking at the picture you appear to have the kitchen sink there.  It is possible that the plant has entered the house through one of the holes that happen to get the drainage out.  Check the outside wall where the drain pipe appears.
