I pretty much 'bargain' for a living, although in my profession we call it negotiating. I have no issue at all in asking, and being asked for a discount.
Good on you Verdun. If you don't ask, you don't get. Also, it often makes you want to return to someone who gives you a bargain. Makes good business sense to entertain offers. Businesses with brains account for it anyway by adding a bit on in the first place.
If I was rolling in it, I'd still hunt out a bargain!
Must admit I don't ask for a discount but if anyone is coming to do a job I'll ask if they'll sort a light or door handle 'while you're here' and they are normally helpful
There isn't much I pay full price for either. There always seems to be a sale of one kind or another on. And haggling can be fun as I found out in Egypt where its part of the buying process.
..I'm not convinced that the main reason behind compulsive haggling is to save money, but rather to win an argument, as if on a kind of power trip...and one always notes how they bragg about it afterwards, as in... I knocked them down such and such...
..this isn't aimed at anyone in particular...just a general observation...
