Meany or being careful !
I have always been a haggler. Whilst at school, aged 13 or so, I haggled for a new bike. Now I argue for discounts for insurance, cars, well everything possible. I save chunks of cash, I get half price pasties and other tasties, claim compensation for service companies falling short, etc. etc., claim on meal offers and the rest and always ask for money off for purchasing there and then.
however, my "meanness" ......prob my boasting about the above on a daily basis......is attracting comment. I'm being careful. sensible and practical I say. I do delight in saving money, feel proud of it even if savings are small but I do worry (ha ha not really) if I am becoming mean.
so folks! I'm not mean, am I? (Meanwhile I'll tuck into my half price rye whilst quietly chuckling at my half price meal last night )

sad
But does it work the other way round or do you get indignant if someone does the same to you
You carry on Verdun. Whenever I buy paint from the place where I have an account I always say, '...and my usual massive discount please'! It works and amuses the staff.
I recently bargained British Gas down on an insurance policy.
Sure you are not a meany Verdun - too cheerful!
Do you nip currants in half
Save all the little bits of soap to stick together?
Any pieces of string in a jar? eat cornflakes even when they've gone soft?
Of course you should always get value for money wherever you can. That makes you canny - not mean

It is a good idea, but never works for me (the bit always falls off and gets stuck in the plughole). I will put shower gel in the microwave for a couple of seconds to get the last of it out
Couldn't agree more Philippa
but think it's Verdun's 2nd hobby
I do wonder if he has relatives from these parts
