My dog has to have antihistamine regularly, especially during spring and summer. Instead of giving her piriton, which my vet suggested, I give her the Benadryl for Children syrup instead (OK'd by my vet).
I use a little 10ml syringe which came with a bottle of metacam when Missy dislocated her patella and needed surgery. The little syringe is an ideal size for giving liquid meds to a dog orally.
I lift her muzzle slightly to tilt her head back a little. Supporting her muzzle with my left hand, I use my left thumb to lift her upper lip close to the back of her mouth.
Using my right hand, I put the tip of the syringe between the little teeth which sit right in front of the huge carnasial teeth (the biggest teeth at the back of a dog's mouth). I then slowly squeeze the liquid into her mouth, a little at a time, allowing her to swallow in between squirts.
She loves taking her "medicine", and always gets a small treat straight after the medicine.
