I had spaniels and the side of the mouth right at the back where the lips meet, inject it slowly. Once they get used to it the dog will be no trouble especially if there is a treat afterwards. Dogs will lick their lips furiously when taking liquid down but as I say once they realize it's a game with a treat at the end they love it.
You tell him, CGFI, I for one found the tips given very useful in case I have the same problem one day with my dog. Have noticed on several posts that he's doesn't seem to like animals, dogs and cats in particular!
Gran - I'm very pleased he's taken some medicine, I have dogs and totally understand your worries.
Hostafan - I'm sorry but you're bang out of order. If you took the trouble to read the introductory information regarding the Potting Shed, you might notice it reads 'Venture into the potting shed for garden gossip, topical debate or idle chit-chat'.
Glad you are managing with the dog, hope he is getting better. Also, pleased to Hostafan apologised, sometimes it is difficult to get the tone right when typing, you haven't the same opportunities to read body language etc. sure he/she meant no offence.

Cats are manageable if you wrap them in a towel so they can't scratch you. Tuck them under your elbow. You then have both hands free and the trick is to open the mouth and put the medication far back in the mouth beyond where they can use their tongue to eject the tablet.

I apologise.
Squirt it onto a thin slice of bread and he'll just eat it. I always do this with any dog meds.
If it's tablets get a slice of bread, put a blob of honey in the middle, pop the pills on the honey, fold the bread over and feed it to Fido.
Simples.

Wish it was as easy with cats - they are so picky with their food that you can't fool them with hiding medication in tasty morsels.
It is much easier to do than to describe.
