Great idea Runnybeak. My top tip for greenery decorations, if you have a beam/wall, is.... 1. Save the netting stuff from round the Christmas tree, or get some old garden plastic netting and attach to nails in the beam/wall.
2. Ask garden centre for their Christmas tree trimmings - got two black bags for nowt last Christmas - they were glad to be rid.
3. Stick them into the netting, using wire ties. Add holly and ivy. Arrange tinsel and lights and do baubles/stuff the kids made at school etc. And bingo. For me, it is just as lovely to look at as the Christmas tree. And a lot cheaper. It worked a bit better when we lived near local supplies of holly to be honest, but here I have to buy it in. Keep meaning to plant some holly.
Why am I talking about Christmas - arrrrgh! I've been wound in!!
Bookertoo asks if people have ever thought about it from the other point of view; my point of view is the near impossibility of purchasing a birthday card for my nephew who has a birthday in late November! I don't, for a number of reasons, want to purchase cards too early and believe me I have very good reasons for that!!
The way things are going we'll have Easter eggs in the shops by November. A couple of years ago one of the consumer programmes on TV looked at the ever earlier Christmas product placement and showed a Christmas cake with a 'Best before' label of mid November. That truly is commercialism gone mad.
Let's face it folks - Christmas has become one huge money making exercise. Call me cynical but on Boxing day, the TV ads for CDs and toys are replaced by holidays. They don't even have the decency to wait until the new year.

Many of us were brought up by people with Victorian attitudes who worried all the time about what other people thought. That way lies misery. Follow the advice above and be yourself and don't worry about whether other people are judging you. What does it matter what anyone else thinks?

Oh my goodness! Why is everyone so serious? I love Christmas but I don't start thinking about it or shopping for it yet. Nobody makes me. Do your own thing and enjoy it!

I have lots of spare bulbs, but I still don't understand how you work out which one blew, so which one to replace.

Mike, there's a well-known saying which goes:
Dance like there's nobody watching,
Love like you'll never be hurt
Sing like there's nobody listening
And live like it's heaven on earth.
