Have got my seed ready for sowing this year I'm going for pre Spencer types as I want a really good perfume,  I've gone for Cupani (maroon/violet), Senator (purple stripe), Dorothy Eckford (white) and Lord Nelson (navy blue).  All bought from Eagle.

Yvies - I was wondering if your sweet peas had been successful this year.

Painted Lady above is reputed to be very highly scented.

OK David but not enough perfume for me.  Also I was away for 3 weeks from the end of July and to be honest my housesitter didn't do a very good job on the watering and picking front.  Painted Lady looks right up my street.

  • Oh, that's a shame. image Having said that, it hasn't been a memorable year for SP growers in general.

  • That's a lovely pic and thanks, looking at the eagles site now some really pretty colour combos. how deep and wide of a pot to start them off, used a tray last time and it was chaos.

  • Linny - As you've discovered seed trays are not good for deep-rooted sweet peas.

I use these from Eagle SPs: http://www.eaglesweetpeas.co.uk/gallerydetail.php?g=8&i=1

  • Just testing the water.

I wondered if there was a consensus of opinion that would like me to start a new season's sweet pea  thread at an appropriate time and ask Daniel to close this one....or continue using this one. Experience has taught me that when they run for too long they become difficult to follow as the information gets deeply buried.

Alternatively we can just settle for no thread at all.

  • Certainly run another David I'm looking forward to joining in.
  • I'll just let things remain as they are then!

  • Are we keeping it going?

Glad I didn't sow to early with the onset of this mild weather, I have a feeling I would have had leggy sweet peas that had put on too much growth!
