Climber to cover shed wall

  • Pyracantha can be trained very easily.  I chop bits off mine all year round, and they don't seem to mind at all.  I love watching the birds eating the berries in winter, especially the acrobatics, when they try to reach the final hard-to-reach ones.

  • To beaus mum

Yeah they are the nosy ones. Most of the staring comes from the little window behind the bamboo so i hope that does its job.

Yeah Bek i will need a horse the way im going

I can totally understand now why you get so upset! I do hope the bamboo grows quick! Is it in a pot mick? Think you may have trouble if not as think it does spread?? Maybe not all bamboos? If you put it in big pot it may also give that extra couple of foot to immediately block the nosey gits!

Thank you green gran for the extra info, I'm definitely gonna move it now image

  • The bamboo i dug up from next door. Its a clump forming type and won't spread too vigorously. I checked first after reading about it becoming a nuisance.

They have had their bamboo for 7 years and still very manageable.

I just dug a hole next to the rhizomes and used secatures to chop pieces attached to each cane.

I may have to put another trellis behind the bamboo if not image
  • Ok so another question

The wall i have to cover is 2.3 meters across and ive worked out i can put 4 plants there with 50cm space between plants

    The question is this

    Could i squeeze 5 in?

I only ask because my idea is i will have a yellow pyra in the middle with an orange either side and then a red each side of the orange giving a flame effect.

Rules are made to be broken Mick, mine are probably only 10inches apart and aeem fine, if its a bit crowded in a few years, just dig one or two out, sounds a nice idea image
  • Right ok...

I managed to pick up fairly decent height plants

    3 x pyracantha

    1 x red berry

    1x yellow berry

    1x orange berry

I had a proper look at the space i had to play with and decided in the long run 3 would be better (learning patience).

I also planted a nice sized honeysuckle to the left of shed on a trellis

I dug a big trench about 2 foot wide by 2 foot deep down the side of the shed and filled with 50L well rotted manure and growmore pellets.

I planted the pyra away from the wall but angled into the wall.

I now need to mulch with more manure and cover with stones i have.

    Good days work

I just need to fit two posts either side of them now and run a few wires accross for support.

I will send u the pics now Bek

Flippin eck Mick, you are a fast learner! Probably best to go with what "should" be done rather than my plant now, fight it in two years time approach! image

Have you watered really well? You will have to make sure they stay well watered fora bit image

What honeysuckle did you get???? Cant wait to see the pics, wish i could post them for youimage
