LP beautiful garden it must be so rewarding to see the garden brought back to its former glory.  Im a bit of a country/cottage gardener but can also appreciate the more formal symetrical look.  I only have a small garden and believe me thats never finished to i can empathise with you on that one.  Never be worried about posting there is a real mixed bag of people using the forum and no one is ever over critical,  sometimes its much better to get advice off real people rather than relying on books or t'internet.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments and yes Y I agree about the personal touch! More fun too!  I sometimes feel the walls are thanking me for restoring the garden.  It is so peaceful and the birds are amazing.   But I am sitting in front of the computer today as I have a touch of sciatica due to overladen wheelbarrows!

  • Ah, the old familiar aches...

Right now for me it is my right shoulder as I am digging planting pockets in a new feature that used to be part of the lawn!

  • That is very nice, more formal than I would do but nowt wrong with that! image

Just beautiful Lily Pilly. You're not too far away from me - a bit further south. Formal gardens are my 'thing' so it's great to see you taking on a project like that. Very hard work, but worth it! My last house had a somewhat neglected garden - different style, more natural with wildlife ponds etc - and although I wasn't there long, I'd like to think that the effort put in improved it  and made it a better garden than when we moved in. The incredible amount of wildlife is what I miss most. Take some time in between labouring and enjoy watching your birds! image

Steve - how is the pond coming on?

    PS - I've taken a few pix BM - I'm warning you though - they're not pretty...image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Fairygirl I love your picture, we have a fairy garden here and some very strong believers! My  OH believes I spend too much time watching our wildlife,! I am sure you left behind a beautiful garden, hope the new owner appreciated your work. The bones of a garden are always there to be rediscovered as we are finding out.

  • Pond has some plants in, I have had one of my (thankfully) intermitted back issues so it is briefly on hold!
