Kez - to post a pic you need to click on the green tree icon on the toolbar above where yo type your post, and follow the instructions to upload a photo from a pc. Afraid it doesn't work for phones - yet
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I've recently planted some Virginia Creeper in a largish pot at the front door, just want it to grow up the wall and over the door and down the other side, don't want it covering the whole wall or shooting all over the place, not feeling so confident that it will work after reading your post pansyface, but he who dares n all that..
Have you considered Jasmine for your arch Kez? i've got one growing up an arch in a very shaded area...
stuck again percy-grower it says avoid north positioning feel really sad i dont think anything is suitable for north facing container climbing plants i was so much hoping for lovely flowers wasnt even bothered about scented just flowers would of been nice
As the trees on the bank below our house in Languedoc were being strangled out of existance it has taken us over two years of sparaying with glyphosate to almost rid us of the stuff - it's been a nightmare.
Not the most hospitable of places here, but we are growing honeysuckle and jasmine. We also find that Passionflower is rampant - originally grown from seed we have suckers (ot seedlings?) all over the place now, but after flowering it does have beautiful apricot-looking fruits and you can make a nice jelly with them!
Many clematis will be fine against a North-facing wall, but the pot must be fairly large and (most importantly) deep with really rich soil, so it's worth trying again in my opinion - regular watering and feeding are essential though. Good thread here:
