My Roses Encyclopedia says New Dawn was introduced from the USA in 1930.
Mine has quite large pointy buds rather like a Hybrid Tea Rose when young and the stems are very stiff and strong - it's not very pliable or floppy, but the flowers when older do look like your picture.
Thanks for all the replies. I'm so pleased to have an answer as I've wondered ever since I was a nipper (I was that kind of boy). It's certainly a lovely rose and I've just made some new cuttings so I'm sure it will go on for some decades to come.
