Any idea of Rose Variety?
Bit of a long shot I know but I'd like to identify the variety of a climbing rose I have had for over thirty years. It was originally growing up an old victorian cottage I grew up in in Surrey and I imagine it was probably as old as the house was. When I moved, I took some cuttings, one of which is thriving in my new garden but I have never known what rose it is. It is a pale pink but the petals seem to turn white as they age, it has a mild scent and the leaves are small and rounded. Can anyone help?
Cheers
James

I can't help you Netfella, although it does look very similar to one I have. I will post a link on a thread we have called Growing Roses and see if anyone can help you.
My guess would probably be 'Awakening'.
Nope..can't be 'Awakening'....she wasn't born until 1990.
Mine is Many Happy Returns but not a climber, the petals go lighter as yours do.
Was going to suggest MHR, OL.....DOB 1991 though.
I've just been googling and don't think it comes as a climber either so that's out too. There was another that you have (I think) a well known one David but has a stronger scent?
Shropshire lad? Or is the scent too strong? I'm sure if it's that David would have got it straight away.
I have a RHS A-Z plant finder and have looked at likely candidates without luck....maybe it's an old Victorian variety.
Who's a clever girl.....Albertine!
..I'm pretty sure that's 'New Dawn'...
