Thanks for all the replies, bit overwhelmed there have been so many! I've had Albertine and I'm pretty sure it's not that, it's not as pink nor as umm messy looking in the petal formation. It does look more like New Dawn. Shropshire Lad looks a bit compact to me. Here's another pic of an older flower head.
It's definitely not Albertine or Shropshire Lad. Could well be New Dawn. I have all 3, ND has the roundest petals and looks pointy in the middle when new and much looser when older, like your picture. Paler pink than Albertine, less peachy, smaller flower with far fewer petals than SL.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
all I can say is it is definitely not Albertine, that goes deeper around the edges quite often almost bronzy and the foliage is usually rather ropey, yours looks great. I think it is a real oldie
as it reminds me of one an aunt had in her garden (she was born in 1905 and her grandfather was a nurseryman; so it may remain a mystery, unless you take it to a rose grower or show for further advice)

Hi folks, is the conclusion that it's New Dawn then? I can get some more pics if it helps.
Cheers

..in my opinion...it is unquestionably 'New Dawn'....
I agree, Salino....way past my bed time last time I looked at it.
