Yes, I spotted this, but didn't know if you had decided to join the queue.....shame, you missed a treat.

    Hello,

for anyone else living in Kent; I've just come across a place called Rumwood Nurseries (courtesy of Google!) which luckily for me is not far from where I live: http://www.britishroses.co.uk/index.html

I know where I'll be going this week!!!

..that's one I didn't know about..thanks for the link.... as we are discussing this sort of thing...here is another favourite of mine...on the Kent/Sussex border area.... Wych Cross... they have around 600 rose varieties and their mail order doesn't compare with what they have at their garden centre...which is just the most wonderful place to visit for plants in general besides their incredible displays of container roses... just so many..

...  it has a Christian ethos... doesn't open on Sundays...but you wouldn't know otherwise...

Thank- you all so much for guidance and inspiration. My wish list is still long but I visited my local rose nursery today and managed to find Geoff Hamilton and Gertrude, so I'm very happy! Also bought a rhapsody in blue as I couldn't resist the colour for my front garden, but it needs  a little TLC.

I was very tempted by generous gardener but there were no flowers in bloom and I wasn't really sure of the colour.

    Thanks again.

Off to do some planting! image

One for David K, or anybody really image

In my rose bed I have one or two that are, simply put, not good do'ers and I'd like to replace them. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that once a rose has been planted in a given spot that you couldn't then plant another rose in the same spot as the first rose will have 'poisoned' that spot and the new rose won't flourish etc.

    Is that right?

It's not recommended because of rose sickness. Dig a really big hole for the new plant and replace the soil with some that has not had roses in, such as veg  plot. You could also add some mycorrhizal powder on the roots to help the new rose establish.

Tina, which nursery did you get to? Handley? Still want to go! My generous gardener should flower in a couple of weeks so maybe you could see that, Gertrude is so lovely, the fragrance is sublime, got 2 in hallway and I can smell them all around

Chris, I planted a rose in exactly spot another had been, the one I took out had only been in a yesr, but I dug out about 18 square inches of soil, added loads of manure, sprinkled microrhizal fungi on roots and new one us doing great, it's a rambler and is 3 times size as when I planted it in AprilApril

Sorry to be a bore, but I'm still totally in love with my Iceberg image

nit boring, o.l gorgeous, actually I have a question regarding my climbing iceberg, it's flowering well, certainly for it,s first full year, but it's flowers stop at around eye height and it's shot up to about 8 feet tall, the new higher growth has no buds, is this ok , anything I should do or just leave and prune back, autumn or spring?

That is beautiful Orchid Lady. Yes Rose - it was Handley's. They  didn't have a massive selection but certainly worth a visit - it's really pretty out that way.

Would love to see generous gardener- was a little disappointed that there were no flowers out but would have been too tempted and struggling for space at the moment. Everywhere I look, there seems to be serious reorganisation needed! imageimage
