I ran a gardening/ garden design business for almost 30 years and never used anything other than Honda.

The one I have now is almost 20 years old and I bought it second hand. It was used for up to 6 hours a day / 5 days a week, by me and the guys who worked for me ( who perhaps weren't so careful as me ). I've not had it serviced in over 15 years, and apart from the odd drive belt wearing out, it's never let me down.

We have had an Honda  ,  and can verify what others have said. Can't add anything else except our praise.you might drop on a second hand one , it's worth checking out from reputable outlets.

I would add that as far as the engine is concerned then Honda is up there with the best of them. However, like so may things today the build and longevity is questionable. As I mentioned earlier my twenty year old Honda is in very good condition and ready for service but the relatives newer model is well, in a condition that is more acceptable to a lesser make. It will be interesting to see how my Hyundai fairs over the coming years although I have to admit to being very particular regarding care and servicing. I would recommend to reguarly change the oil. I replace it every couple of months, fresh fuel each year of course and a new plug will increase engine life. I think we each have our preference based on experience of our own and that of others and how each uses and unfortunately abuses in some instances, these hard working garden tools. There are lower grade cheaper examples available but if you are able then pay a little more and buy a quality reputable machine. My choice of Hyundai was made on that not only was the mower of good quality but the company has an extremely good reputation I commercial machinery including generators and a pretty zound automotive history. Somewhat in tandem with the likes of Honda as one example.

    Hi Sean 3

Just wondered how you’re getting on with the Hyundai? I’ve got a large lawn on rough ground and was concerned about build quality and reliability of the engine. Do you think the engine is comparable to a Briggs and Stratton? Would you consider the Hyundai to be of similar build to a Mcculloch mower? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

Hi Jon. You may already have read reply. I'm very impressed with the Hyundai. Took it out yesterday after winter lay up and with fresh oil and fuel it started at the first turn of key. Build quality is superb. My "lawn" too is uneven with undulations and it handles well. Engine is on another level to the BS and build quality is well above the mac. I would say that the Hyundai, like the Hayter is to be compared on its own merits. I would happily recommend this mower and add that it is outstanding value for money.

I just thought I would return with an update on my Hyundai now it has covered some ground so to speak. Am I still happy? Absolutely! I just cannot enthuse enough about this mower. Outstanding value and quality is excellent. It starts first time, every time with the key and the smoothness at which it operates and quiet running makes cutting grass a pleasure. The large wheels enable it to be maneuvered easily and although a large heavy mower it is easy to push around awkward shapes when drive is disengaged. If you are looking for a replacement mower seriously do consider this as it really is good. I have had Haytor, Honda, Webb and many other quality makes but this, in my opinion, is the best so far.
  • I love my Hayter.  Expensive but I think worth every penny.  Being female I need something that can be moved around easily and starts easily.  Just love it.

Honda for me. I wish I'd bought a Honda ride on but opted for John Deere and have regretted it ever since.
