Oh damn well maybe it was a rat poo but very strange only one and no more anywhere since....BUT! I'm pleased to say I'm sure that today i went out to the bins and found a hedgehog dropping outside the back gate where I leave a dish of water
It's about an inch and much wider and definitely full of scales etc.
Just need to put a sign up on the grassy area behind which the council mow and strim to ask them to be careful
I have found hedgie poo in my garden seveeral times lately and last night put out a small offering of meaty dog-food. It had gone in an hour though I don't kid myself that it was a hoggie; rats, cats and foxes are more likely. However, I have ordered a wildlife camera! I've been meaning to for ages and have now been-an-gorn-an-dunnit.
Ooh I'd love one too! How much are they? I haven't put food out as was worried about encouraging rats....and there's loads of gormless cats around that would eat it too!
I recommend a hedgehog feeding station, will keep other animals out & secure the food for the hogs. I place mine with a few bricks on top, facing against the garage or shed with a small gap. Put the meat flavoured cat biscuits at the furthest end.
Ooh interesting reading. I will think about making that you tube feeding station. My new concern is that the green area is next to the car parking area which is quite busy. I'm going to tell my near neighbours who are nice but already think I'm a bit mad so it will add to my eccentricity!
I'm putting food out again tonight but that's it until the camera arrives. I have put a layer of damp sand down and will put the dish in the middle. I'm hoping that there may be some sign of footprints so I will have a clue as to who's taking it.
Wildlife cameras vary a lot in price. I've taken some advice and gone for one around the £130 mark.

The rat poop is on the far right.
Easily £1 coin sized. That's an inch scale.

Hmm, the shininess almost sounds like the insect scales though & hogs are decent climbers. Do you have a night cam?
