My 'LO' ( nearly 13) had his playlist on his phone yesterday, Oasis, Stone Roses and Jake Bugg and his friend asked him to turn it off because it was rubbish......some people have no taste!!
I was listening to an album if greatest no1s yesterday while cleaning my sinks, some classics on there
Music my lovely people is Vienna, Handel, Mozart Wagner, or if letting the hair down Glen Miller, Bing Crosby, Chick Henderson, Tauber, Henry Hall.
All the above whilst relaxing not supposedly working in the garden with free bird song, the noise of continuous mobile phone tunes and the chatter of people who seem to need to be in continuous communication with some one, "hi, yer all right, yeh just weeding" NO YOU ARE NOT, you are gassing on the phone and disturbing the old chap next door, "gerroffff", who on earth needs noise when as some one pointed out we have the sound of strimmers, lawn mowers and chain saws.
Once we could hear the mooing of the animals in the fields, the chirrup of the insects buzzing of bees, all in the past overtaken by three chords on loud electrical ear busters in the hands of kids who never studied music as we all did as kids.
Driven in by the racket I at times ease my tensed up feelings by playing my Piano and yes you guessed it Vienna is the music to do that.
Is it possible to have a forced silence for at least an hour say on Sundays, no phones, no I-poddi thingees and no old radios in the greenhouse please. Oh the joy of that peace.
Frank, hope this does not upset people "err" or do I.
Its a free world Frank, and, I agree with a lot of what you say. Most of this thread is about music we listen to somewhere, not necessarily the garden.
I have just heard Something Inside So Strong - Labi Siffre on the radio, surely one of the best protest songs ever.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
I love that song too Punk, it's on my 'favourites' list
Frank, the thread stared as music in the garden but as a lot of people listen to birds (including me at times) it is now music just about everywhere. I like a bit of classical too and love Bing Crosby.....at Christmas I do like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin though and they are they same era (I think, I'm actually too young to remember!) I okay the piano too but not for long and wish I could play Mozart it, or actually I prefer Beethoven
Yesterday I admit to having music on my headphones a but louder than I should because I was sick of hearing next door but one neighbour's dog barking continuously!!
Puncdoc, I would never disagree with that thought we fought a war for freedom. My beef is people who force their own choices on others who have no choice but to listen. A garden to some is a place of solace as are open spaces parks busses trains and planes some prefer the sound of the life around and not the racket from noise machines where you can even hear their ear phones, are they asking to go deaf?
I wrote my post tongue in cheek knowing most of the posters from years of interaction and that they would take it as meant, I did not set out to upset people so sorry.
Protest songs poetry or script do not stir my fires, using my voting rights writing to the papers or grabbing hold of my local or parliamentary representatives and giving them an earful is my way. We must agree to disagree then.
I think I should just clarify that I NEVER play my music for others to hear, I always have it through my headphones on my iPod and can usually still hear the birds as I don't have it loud......I can't promise not to sing along sometimes though But you haven't upset me, I don't easily get upset
Frank the world would be a much sadder place without different views. I would hate it if everyone else liked the music I like. It is all a question of taste, I have good taste, and, anyone who disagrees is wrong!!!
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Puncdoc true yet again, I travel through my fairly new digital radio and there is music for all tastes, mainly Classic FM though on occasion one of the oldies programmes and I mean 40-50-60, not on any account 70-80-90. I will admit there are now some songs I recognise as Music!!! and singers I listen to more Adele definitely not boy bands or withered twitchy rehashed pensioners still trying to gyrate as if being stung by a swarm of bees. Vive Le Difference and long may it be so.
Orchid Lady go wash your mouth out Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, mentioned on the same page as Bing "agh" I never liked Sinatra and after hearing Chick Henderson the Hartlepool crooner you would not compare them either, Bing said Chick was the best crooner of his day.
My Daughters said you never play the, piano when we are here, well no, they are usually talking twenty to the dozen, the grandchildren playing or wrapped up in their technocrat toys, Hannah has two funny looking dolls that actually talk to each other cost a fortune and do not need any one to play with them, what is the point? So I sat down and played, what I know, the grandchildren on each side open mouthed, we did not know your piano could do that, no children I am doing that, the piano is the voice of my fingers. A voice from the gods, dad can you play some three chord boy band number I had never heard of, no piano lid closed I gave up.
Music was, still is my life, dancing, going through the big band era was an education in itself dancing to those wonderful live bands in the huge Locarno;s and Palais it was our time as was probably the noughties to some of you, what ever we think of as good music is our business as long as we get enjoyment from it.
Love the piano story Frank, I very rarely play in front of anyone, but that is because I'm not very good and no other reason. My eldest plays the guitar and my youngest plays the drums......both very well and my youngest has just chosen music GCSE, I am so proud of him
Tonight I was in my GH potting up chillies at dusk, just me the birds, my hounds playing....oh and a glass of wine, but no music tonight
Punk, Something Inside So strong was on whilst I was making tea tonight, how strange is that....a lovely song Absolute 80s on Monday has the ultimate 80s song countdown on....all day, bonus I need a digital radio for the garden
