weather changes how plants behave. For best autumn colour, an early cold snap to start them off , then a long cooler period to keep it going. If your garden is sheltered , maybe this didn't happen? It's all part of the fun.
Oh thanks for that info. Well yes this was hidden under lots of shrubs which had taken over and I just kind of discovered it late summer/early autumn when I cut back all the bushes.
Maybe too, as it was overshadowed by other plants, it didn't get enough direct sunlight for the leaves to produce all those sugars that make the glorious colours when the cold snap arrives - poor thing didn't stand a chance this last year - now it's going to get sunlight and space, and hopefully some Fish Blood and Bone ticked into the soil around it - it's going to be so happeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
You wait until next autumn

I've just "google imaged" " euonymus alatus stems", and it does look pretty much like yours Jack. Have a go and see what you think.

Is there anything I can do to help it along this year?
