Hollie hock and me did a plant swap and she called it a false sunflower and so do I now
This is the plant on the left with the pretty yellow flower, picture from last year forgot to take one this year - hope this pic helps show what we mean by false sunflower
The area for the pallet benches is now ready just need to finish painting them - will try tomorrow
Hollie hock you are right the pink one is a monarda did not come back this year lost them had a few colours don't think they liked the soil and area - shame they had a nice smell, there was honesty near it and a phlomis plant which flowered for the first time and is starting to get bigger
Finished painting benches late yesterday cleared car now in there to take tomorrow to Woolston garden project then will take planters on second trip as have finished lining them (using old compost bags)
So will take some pictures tomorrow and hope to post on here
only looked back a few pages and love all the photos of the pallet projects on here, as some of you know i have made a lot of things from pallets (they are on this thread somewhere) but i found the long crowbar to be the best tool for getting the pallets apart, the advantage of a long one over a normal shorter one is the leverage you get making it easier to prise the slats off of the pallets, i line up the fork type end with the edge so the 'nail' looks to be in the middle of the fork space and then wearing my steel toecaps (donated by husband but 3 sizes too big but does the job) kick the crowbar and it will slide under the slat and the nail will be in the crowbar fork space then lever up just a bit, then do the other end, the go back to first end and lever off completely and do same to second end, this way the pallet slats tend to not split so much, then use hammer for any nails that remain.
Pictures of benches and planters hope you like them
Both benches I painted with cuprinol garden shades and made the painted stripes in different orders
This picture is how it looks with bark chippings down and planted pots in pots - mixed bulbs tulips, daffs, hyacinths, alliums, crocus and little primulas

Your false sunflower looks like an Inula.

Now thinking of making a little table
Gardengirl , benches look great , have you thought about stripes on planters as well ?
GWRS going to leave the planters that colour- quite like them - and don't have loads of paint
