We appear to have a Mr & Mrs Robin in the garden! Certainly they were tolerating each others company as well as any married couple might image

  • Hi Dove, Not so bad, had a few more things "going walkabouts" including a little tree (black hawthorn I think it was) I got from some volunteering along with a few daffodils being dug up! shame but hey what can you do. I've had some kind of dasiy thing flowering all winter which has been nice, not too sure what it is, i'll try post a picture at some point. saw a couple more ladybirds today too, hidden on the old withered stems of sunflowers. hoping they stick around to sort out the aphids when they come! How are things your end?

When I take small mutt for a walk by the canal, I keep seeing a water bird with 2 large white markings underneath it's rear end, when it leaves the water I can see it has fairly long slender legs. It is not plump and sturdy like a Duck. I can't find it in my bird books, any ideas?

    a small tortoiseshell.

I think I saw one of those yesterday but such a fleeting glimpse I didn't get my eyes focussed before it had gone

My bees have been venturing out of their hives, which has made me very aware of the fact that we don't have much going on in the garden to keep them happy at this time of year.  Mahonia and winter honeysuckle have been brought to my attention, but any other suggestions gratefully accepted.

Pulmonaria rubra is covered in flowers and the bees love it, They're busy round the single snowdrops as well.

  • My boatman is swimming about my pond. I last saw him when I cleaned out the pond in December - I think I disturbed his slumbers 'cos he was frantically nosediving towards the sludge at the bottom of the pond! Before that it was October, so I guess he has been hibernating since then.

Please God, send me a frog ....................!!
