Chris, if that tree is a willow, I would suggest you have it removed asap. They are notorious for problems with drains and house foundations and that looks far too close. It will also suck up all the moisture and cast shade over your new raised veg beds.

The willow is most definitely staying, it is a stunning tree and a good 80-100 foot away from the house. Shouldn’t cause any issues with shade either the way the sun rises and sets.
That looks good Chris, like the ferns. I understand your feelings about the willow, you're right, they are stunning trees but are generally not suitable for most gardens.
It's lovely to see the progress. Do you find the log steps get very mossy and slippy though. I couldn't do that under trees - bad enough for slippery moss out in the open here!

Slippy yes, mossy no. I simply just walk on the bark when it’s wet. As soon as they are starting to dry the slippyness goes away again.
