It is just coming up to flower, when it will turn more blue. it is a biennial and the bees love it. It also produces lots of seeds which come up all over the place.
It will usually scatter lots of seeds. I had one years ago, and then when I cleared a patch and turned it over, up they cam. Same with Onopordum acanthium. (scotch thistle) The seedlings for the eryngium are very distinctive.
Look out on the seed swap later on in the year if you want some seeds.
I'll keep an eye out for the seedlings- I tend to only dig out those I recognise as weeds. I have a few other eryngium types knocking about too so I'll check out them for life length too.
My scotch thistle is just about to flower - so I'll keep an eye out for them too later on this year.
I want Davids Delphiniums (I cant find a single flower spike on any yet) and Bams Ferns .. Like that idea of the Delphiniums among the Kniphofia from the last page too.
Sun doesnt really want to fight its way through today but just some of the front in more detail as I must have corrupted all yesterdays. I can see them but the forum wont accept them.
So finally some of the plants that have been sat around from the old garden have been replanted (not all to plan it has to be said) along with some new bits and pieces.
The lilies look like they are waiting for that last run of warmth and sun.
The dahlias (well I just wish they were a bit more red and less blousy in your face but they still look ok)
Same goes for the penstemons - I have some lovely raven ones that have yet to flower this is a pink beard tongue. Its a bit to fussy looking for me - but who cares
Flush of white verbascums - quite a few of these around but I need to get more dark foilage around them to show them off.
Finally did identify this as an alium roseum (thanks for the ID).. Very nice but I had forgotten i planted them and they are a little lost especially with white salvia (shneehugel) as a background.
The entrance to the woodland is starting to take better shape though.
And the strawberries in the pots are doing great though need a lot of food..
the last dwindling poppy (bye gorgeous, see you next year, miss you already)
2 hugging alliums and a campanula doing really well this year.
the orange thing of mum's that I can never remember the name of...2 words, someones something...monks..., not that, aghhh, it'll come to me..star of something? have a feeling ther's a vague link to religion. (obviously I only know the common name!)
Snap Ighton - my penstemon is like yours but I think it's called bubblegum or strawberries and cream - lost the label...
Pics are coming out in odd orders lately so I'll just list them and you'll have to match them up yourselves I'm afraid!
penstemon as above, tanacetum coccineum Robinsons red (new as a tiny 6 for £10 plant in spring), and aquilegia caerula crimson star (not a traditional but sorry to say it's by far my favourite - I like fussy), so here they are (unless they come out above..)

I had one of those called silver ghost but I didn't recognise it. I didn't know it was a biennial- I should have collected seeds...
