Ah Fairy it takes a mild, sunny day to appreciate it.  We're so lucky to have had oneimage

LilyP I can't give a proper answer - the horrible conifer does a good job of protecting it from early morning sun but as we are in a bungalow it gets some sun most of the day (when the sun's out).  We had huge conifers growing outside the garden a few years ago which did protect it from westerly winds but the council cut them down and now it's growing slightly lopsided. Shame about your garden club folding - are they thinking about origami now? (sorryimage)

Wintersong - I've always admired pictures of your garden.  It's gorgeousimage  Sure Josephine will perform again next year with a bit of food and drink.

Very nice Yvie. Foliage contrast and shape is a winner at this time of year and through winter. I was just thinking the same thing this morning when I looked at my little border at the foot of the back fence - it's all green, gold and white  and although there's not much in flower at the moment apart from the Jap Anem, primulas and the little yellow flowers on the Rocket,  it's bright and cheery on a wild, drab day like we have here today  image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
