All my oriental poppies have rotted away.. Not sure where I went wrong .. One has rotted to nothing and others forms buds that rot and they seems to be heading the same way.
Hi KS, yes oriental poppies, some I bought named and others as part of a mixed perennial pack. I don't know which are which though.
I wish I could help with your poppy problem ighten, but I really don't have a clue. I might have used the wrong word saying my buds were rotting; it's more like the case doesn't come off the bud properly and the petals deteriorate underneath. In the pic there is a bud under the orange that is doing it and the royal wedding one did the same.
No doubt the heavy rain is demolishing them all as I type anyway
A few in the rain from this afternoon. The campanula which I shoved randomly all over the wall last year seem to love it (though they will bake and dry out if not watched)..
The armeria ballerina is nice though its looking a bit like a one off afterthought - maybe I'll buy more and move them on mass next spring.
Out of three Lupin "The Page" this is the only one to form a spike.. Pretty pathetic even if it is a lovely colour. Problem this year is most plants have had to endure a move.
Veronica loves the conditions at the edge of the woods though - pity the flowers disappear in the slightest breeze.
I have also planted a combination of Digitalis Grandiflora and Luzula nivea here in the entrance to the woods - but unlike Chelsea I cant see them flowering at the same time. Maybe next year (when no doubt the foxglove will be the wrong colour)
Gooseberrys are doing well though
And the veg plots are underconstruction and planted.. There will be about 6 of these in this area.. Big issue is I cant let the sheep in anymore to keep the grass down - they keep eating the seedlings (and the plant labels) - eventually the fences will be replaced with some form of hedgerow to create different rooms.
I'm a big fan of amerias too, were yours bought or from seed?
I think they came from the (half dead reduced section) of homebase or b&Q - It does get you plants cheaply but the problem is if your like me you end up with one of something stuck in randomly. Need to learn to either walk away or find more
I'd like to grow from seed next year if it's possible! They're striking. I too only have the one, but it's not an issue, I have thin strips of soil rather than proper borders so it doesn't really matter having just the one, plus I have it next to a dianthus of the same colour that sort of works... in my mind at least!
Just been to Aldi where they have these lovely grasses! Only £1.99 each! I got 3 Stipa, 3 Uncinia and 3 Corynephorus. They also have some Callas for £3.99 in various colours.

That reminds me KS, I have tried to germinate some lemon seeds, and I think they've sprouted so will pot them up and see if they come to anything..
