I'd like to know about Xmas scones too. I take along biscuits or wee cup cakes when I go to patchwork on Mondays and need something Xmassy but not too frightening for the French ladies. I was thinking mincemeat muffins.
I have to sew this week but am hoping to plant bulbs next week now that we've actually had some rain!!!
Got my garlic in a couple of weeks ago on a roots day so it's been frosted a couple of times. Might get some broad beans sown next week too unless it freezes again.
We bought a Nordman tree from Lidl of all places. Best price around. It's been sat in a bucket of water since to slow down the limp factor when we do bring it in. Paid more for one last year and it was limp by NY after sitting around on display with now water at the store. Hope this ruse works.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Oberlix , If no roots and just a stump worth cutting a couple of inches off bottom , will suck up water better , also if possible stand in something you can add water to , when we had a real tree ? this worked wonders
We tried but it's already jammed into a block for support. We bought it a couple of weeks ago, soon after its arrival in the shop, and then put it straight into water so it should be OK and I have an old galvanised laundry bucket which I painted red and green and gold and decorated with snowflake and Xmas tree stencils to stand it in.
We used to buy them with roots but they never took so we gave up but it did mean I needed a big pot to hide the plant pot. Last year it was just a small tree as we had two new kittens........
This year it's a proper tree and will be on the floor which will be interesting with two young cats and the waggy Labrador tail too.

Tis Xmas Eve and I have just finished last Xmas Market, walked through the door and remembered I must log in and wish you all a very merry Christmas - Scones are dead easy obelixx - Standard recipe and add 1 large dessertspoon of mincemeat with a good slug of brandy to mix before rolling out and baking. Your Muffins should work just as well.Lidl had very few trees left that you could describe as 'a tree'!!! Picked up one from InterMarche half price this afternoon together with two half price lobsters -so that's us sorted tonight!. O/H has put tree up outside with outside lights on it - Find they keep much longer that way and you can buy taller one's and not worry -Cost 12Euros!! Lobsters 18Euros! -So with Oysters flashed under the grill topped with creme fraiche and camambert, plus a nice of salad and the obligatory Fizz we shoud have a good evening. Bed 10'ish as worn out!!! Thank goodness for video machines! Roast pheasant on a bed of apples, shallots and celery, doused in calvados and creme fraiche will be our treat tomorrow. - New kitten likes fish so have called him Chips!
Will do Lunar Calender Tuesday as Boxing Day does not exist here and back to work
Off to make cup of tea and boil lobsters.
Have a wonderful Xmas break and tuck up warm. Happy Gardening!
Hi Everyone - Hope you are not too full up to get out into that garden, if nothing else to gather some goodies to eat. I still have a smidgeon of thyme/mint and marjoram tucked in a corner of one raised bed, so shall make tasty omelette for lunch with a spinach salad with the last of the spinach leaves that remain edible. Could I cut off Celery tops and not pull roots up -would they resprout like lettuce?
Between now and 30th December Lunar Calender has calmed down, so we can really stay warm indoors and on 26/27/28th Dec - Leaf Days so plant up some chick peas/soya or lentils for tasty salad sprouts on the kitchen windowsill. On 29th Fruit Day -If mild enough sow some more Broad Beans & Round Peas.
Picked up my 2018 Lunar Weather Calender this morning. Lots of really interesting scientifically backed info in update pages. -Lots of new info also re different aspects of Lunar Gardening. Met a really nice biodynamic gardener at Xmas Market on Xmas Eve, Her baby pumpkins were stunning with our Pheasant yesterday. She has asked me round in the New Year to see her Nursery. Shall we do more with Biodynamics on this Thread next year? -It certainly seems to work well in conjunction with existing Lunar Calender. I have joined local Bio Gardening Association, so hope to learn alot more.
Cats send best wishes to all - Very miffed no rodents to catch at the moment -Looking forward to warmer weather like their owners!! _Note some of us did get snow yesterday even as far south as Cardiff I hear, so Lunar Weather Calender right!

Tree looks good , I’m sure the kitten will have a climb?
That was last year and that 3 month old kitten now weighs 4.5 kilos. Not good swinging in a tree. We'll see.
