I have found some red onions and pink garlic at last but now have to wait till Friday to plant them.   Who knows, we may have had a drop of rain by then but none forecast so not holding my breath.

I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to find out when is the best time to sow tree and shrub seeds.  They'll all be done in pots anyway so I'm going to try the new moon and see if that helps at all.

The local Xmas fare here is in the old medieval Halles at Moutiers-les Mauxfaits on Nov 26th.   It's small but the best of all the ones we went to last year including La Rochelle which we expected to be wonderful but was all about drinking and deep fried battered prawns and/or frites or sweets for kids.   Ours has presents, decorations, clothes, Xmas nappery, local food and drinks to eat and give as gifts...

Do you need a licence to sell your products BF?  Jams, preserves etc? or can you just turn up if you do it on small domestic quantities?

    Hi Obelixx

Glad to hear you found onions, mine are just beginning to sprout. Treat tree and shrub seeds like leaf crops and choose a moon descendent and if possible low tide. First Xmas Market this weekend and yes you do need to be registered with Chambre de Commerce or Chambre de Metiers et Artisans to sell products. You have to have a Siren and register with RSI. You have to have a Carte de Commercant Ambulant and this can only be obtained through either of the above registrations. As ever in France each Department is different. Pop into Chanbre de Commerce or indeed your Maire should know the answer for your area.

Just back from Fair in Rennes picked up some Alliums and Broderaie for 50cents a pack in equivalent of UK £ shop (Noz) -Made 2 new flower beds and planted them out yesterday before it rains again! Wish I could send this weather to you Obelixx -Think you need it more than I do! - Hope your trip to Ypres was good GWRS, very emotive there.

Look out for Lunar Calender 22 -30th November tomorrow.

    Happy Gardening!

Gosh you packed alot in both away and at the plot! I have just put 2 Xmas Cakes in the oven (made too much mix for one, so many years of cake mix covering family recipe that I copied ingredients for double ration instead of 1 -Wondered why cake tin so heavy!!! -Anyway loads of Calvados and Brandy in it, so should taste ok.

Here is Lunar Calender 22-30th November

22-23 November - Moon ascending in Sagittarius - Fruit Days. Sow 'round' peas and broad beans. Now here's a note I need help with -Gather Olives! -I picked some off tree in hotel carpark in Rennes, nearly black (ripe?) -Now what do I do??

24-25th November - Moon ascending in Capricorn -Root Days , no gardening before 1.30pm on 24th noeud descending. Check stored potatoes and rub off any sprouting buds.

26/27/28th November - Flower Days. Sow Swet Peas in pots and keep under cover, protecting them even in the greenhouse against frost. These will be ready to put out in the Spring.

29/30th November - Moon in Gemini so Leaf Days. Harvest Brissel Sprouts, Lambs Lettuce, Spinach and Winter Lettuce. Under heat sow oranges & lemons and even avocado from old pips plus stones. They will make attractive plants if you are prepared to wait awhile. (I keep finding avocado plants in the compost heap - Don't expect any avocados though as apparently they grow into trees before they fruit according to my notes from a Gardener's Question Time some years ago)

So Happy Gardening and Keep Warm!

    Hi Everyone

Here is the Lunar Calender 3-10th December

3/4 & 5th Dec up to 11.42am Full Moon ascending in Taurus so Root Days. No gardening until after 1.50pm on 4th as Moon perigee. Sow some round radishes together with short carrots, liftong radishes as they swell for salads and leaving space for the Spring crop of carrots that will follow. Protect from slugs and cover with straw or bracken during cold snaps.

6th Dec - Flower Day If you have no frost plant out bare rooted shrubs and roses.

7/8th Dec - Moon descending in Cancer so Leaf Days up until 2.59pm on 8th Plant new hedging if ground not frosted. Blanche chicory and dandelion for tasty salads.

8th (after 3pm) 9/10th Dec - Fruit Days Prune Fruit trees and brush off lichen and moss (I don't do this as proves no pollution in area with good lichen growth) Spread well rotted compost around roots and Bio granules to stimulate growth having cleared away grass from around trunk.Transplant raspberry suckers to create new plants for next season.

December promises to swing between rain and snow at regular intervals with particular emphasis on the 16th until the end of the month - A white Xmas perhaps??!!!

Off to UK this am to deliver Xmas presents to family and buy more Xmas Puddings etc to sell, as all gone at Xmas Market last weekend. Also need decent marzipan which I can't get here in a cold but sunny Normandy.

    Happy Gardening.

    Hi Everyone

Very very very WET!!! Car gave up the ghost in the middle of flooded road on Monday. O/H driving thank goodness otherwise it would have been my fault! Still hero that he is took off shoes/socks and rolled up trousers and pushed car with me hanging on to steering wheel frantically as we floated backwards onto safe hard surface! Then O/H walked home to get 2nd vehicle to tow 1st -By the time he returned I had started engine and car and I limped home. Garage hopeful so fingers crossed not complete write off! Will find out next Monday. This is the reason I did not do Lunar Calender on 11th dec -Sorry. Hope none of you have suffered too much with the snow. I'm afraid that we are in for some more wet and snowy eather before the month is out. But a white Xmas would be nice.

    Lunar Calender 14-23rd Dec 2018

14/15/16th Dec - Moon descending -Root Days. Keep covering root crops with warm blanket of straw even if no frost. it will rot down by the Spring to produce wonderful mulch at the same time as protecting deeper rooted crops. Continue planting shallots and garlic as they like a good cold spell to sprout.

17/18th Dec - New Moon on 18th in Air Sign Libra so Flower Days - Cut down remaining dead flower heads from perrenials and burn any diseased growth. Leave grasses and hardy perrenials alone. Prune shrub roses lightly if mild (which I doubt!)

19/20th Dec - Moon descending in Scorpio so Leaf Days Carry on planting out bare rooted hedging but don't plant out any further Cabbages. Force Chicory and plant Ivies and Vines against walls.

21/22/23rd Dec - Fruit Days .No Gardening until after 1.50pm on 21st as Moon apogee.Sow Broad Beans and Round Peas. If you have a handy Mill near you -Take your olives to be pressed into lovely oil for Xmas (I wish!)

So we're nearly there. Xmas Trees far too expensive this year, so I shall trim the conifers at the side of the house -Go on a Holly hunt and make my usual Forest Scene and table decorations in the lounge and dining room. Kitchen already smells good as made Xmas Scones with Mincemeat and lots of Brandy for market this w/e. I have finished decorating the Christmas Cakes on Order (As usual forgot about ours -Usually decorate it on Xmas Eve so that's OK.) Have decided to have Pheasant or Guinea Fowl this year. Only two of us so ideal.

Your niece has the right idea in search of sunshine GWRS. Our extended family is in Canada with plenty of snow or Australia in mid-summer. Client of mine bought a tin of shortbread yesterday to take to his daughter in Geneva, apparently she really misses Scotland even though she is French. New kitten playing with new toys -Xmas Lights!!! -Must go!

    Happy Gardening.

Sorry to hear about car ? , hope it recovers and not to expensive !

Thanks for update , not been to plot lately , probably will be after Christmas ?

We where lucky , only had a dusting of snow ❄️ , rained overnight and all gone  but has been rather cold , even down to 1 degree in the day time . Yes a white Christmas would be nice but rare

Got decorations out of loft this evening will put up tomorrow , we have a holly tree in garden and in the past have taken bits off for decorations , also 2 small ones in pots that self seeded in the garden that make a nice table decoration

Have you named the new Kitten ?

    Whats Xmas Scones ?
