  • Skies rather grey but a milder day, so I did some tidying up round the semi neglected garden; but it's a beginning!

Obelixx - BioD Calender says avoid taking Willow Cuttings today 3rd March - Apparently it is to avoid too strong a sap current. Next date recommended 16th-18th March, Good luck! 2nd Water Melon sprouted plus tiny little aubergine popped it's head up this morning whilst I was making marmelade. Have split my seed packets up too, don't need to buy many this year, but temptation always there!! UK visitor gave me big assorted pack of bulbs last w/e - Great excitement - I love presys like this!

Thanks BF.  I shall wait another 2 weeks.  Don't want to ruin my neighbour's tree when she has kindly said I can go and help myself.

The twisted willows I took during the last roots cycle are now producing some very strong root - all of them!    Good job I have homes for them all.

Orange (Seville of course! which I make with brown sugar only)/Orange and Ginger/Lemon and Lime/3 Fruit (Orange/Lemon/Lime). - Sell masses to the French - They always make theirs with sweet oranges or mandarines and wonder why it does not taste the same. As in UK, Seville oranges only available for a fortnight here, and then usually only available to the trade. As a patisserie I can get them fairly easily, but I am buying 50Kg at a time - so I'm a good customer in January!!! - Takes me a fortnight to boil the fruit down - then I freeze it and pull out a Kg at a time when I need it - add sugar and 20mins later it's all ready. Get 9 pots from each batch.

Just put greenhouse cover back on (new one has not turned up yet!) - Dreadful gales yesterday. Hope it improves. 1 more aubergine popped up this morning. Glad these seedlings are tucked up in the kitchen. Garlic doing really well in pots in greenhouse and parsley plus salads thriving. New Broccoli ready to eat. Tuscan Nero Kale going to seed - Tried eating seed heads - really tasty and stalks have re-sprouted - Have I found something new?

All my cavolo nero froze to death in January.  I'm hoping it'll be fine enough tomorrow to lift it all and bin it and hoe the bed ready for another crop.

I thought it was supposed to be hardy?? I must admit, it tasted better after a frost like sprouts. - Re your fridge - Had you thought of popping over the border into France. We paid 495Euros last Autumn for a pretty good make at Darty- standard sort of price here.

We have problems getting Seville oranges , Sainsburys sell them sometimes , didn't get any this year so O/H got tins from Lakeland

The 3 fruit ones sounds good , o/h has done orange/lemon and lemon on its own

    Forgot to grow any Kale

Garlic and onions planted last year are growing well , got some more Shallotts to put in

Never heard of Cavolo Nero will have to goggle it
