All well here after wonderful w/e at Garden Fair south of Rouen. I was placed opposite a Bio Nursery full of herbs that I had never come across before - Bought Arnica/Liveche (Perpetual spicy celery) Blue Magic Basil which is a giant of a plant, plus 1 Totem tomato /2 Blue Shimmer Germanica irises to put near pond and a Snow Queen Siberica Iris which is so so pretty and delicate, to place near my seat in the Potager to gaze at on sunny days - Talking of which where is the sun? We seem to have very little at present but raining buckets today - Not surprised no gardening recommended in Lunar Calender - Would not want to do it anyway! Have done best I could in between showers in and out of greenhouse. Now having trouble getting into greenhouse, and I thought 12 x 8 big enough!! Keep getting grabbed by angry plants. Have decided tender potted shrubs MUST go outside, to make room for rampant babies that I grew from cuttings last year (Why am I such a sucker for growing more of what I've got already?!) Rescued lots of babies growing in carpark and being threatened by Weedkiller fanatic husband! Yes, they should be put on compost heap - but they look so healthy and I'm sure that I have space somewhere! - GWRS your allotment sounds really full - How big is it? I'm not growing sunflowers this year - Lots of poppies/cosmos/marigolds instead to encourage more insects to Potager. - Sawfly have arrived on gooseberries. Bio Nursery recommended a decoction of garlic & camomile. Try anything once! Look out for next few days Lunar Calender tomorrow.  Happy Gardening.image

    Hi everyone

Here is the Lunar Calender 20-31 May and I'm sorry but more rain forecast as Uranus sitting firmly in Pisces.

20/21 May - Full Moon 9pm on 21st Moon descending in Libra -Flower Days Prune spring flowering shrubs once they have faded and divide spring bulbs once the leaves have yellowed. Plant out Buzy Lizzies and petunias sown 8th March Thin out Cauliflowers and Broccoli sown 1/2 May (Mine have only just sprouted!)

22/23 May - Leaf Days Moon in Scorpio with Mars on 22nd. Prune evergreen and deciduous hedges. Thin out salad crops and prick out cabbages sown 3/5 May.

24/25/26 May - Moon Descending in Sagittarius & Mars & Venus on 25th- Fruit Days. Sow all Beans plus more peas/mangetouts together with nasturtiums who will attract blackfly and aphids away from growing crop. Sow Sweetcorn.

27/28 May - Moon in Capricorn -Root Days. Sow chicory and carrots.

29/30 May - Moon rising in Neptune at 5pm on 29th - Flower Days - Sow bi-annuals and perrenials. No gardening before 10.45am on 30th

31 May - Leaf Day Sow more salad crops including perpetual spinach/rocket/celery and beetroot for leaves only.

So there we have it - another month nearly over. A glimpse at June shows cooler nights, balmy days but more wet weather. All will be revealed nearer the time! Happy Gardening!

Garden fare at Rouen sounds good , just got details of trips we can do when we dock there in August one of them is to the Monets garden , do you known it ?

    Thanks for the calendar

The allotment is 130 ft by 30 ft and is split in 2 , top half has smaller and raised beds and bottom half larger beds , will try and put a picture on

At allotment i planted a dalia bed last year and will put in some cosmos we grew from seed

Marigolds I put in green house with tomatoes

We have had some really nice days then it rains all day but the gardens need the water , hoping to go to allotment over weekend image

What a cracking plot - Looks really good and much tidier than mine!! So much to do at the moment. Aquilegias are stunning and irises just coming out. Walked around Potager at 6am this morning as exhibiting at Hunting Shooting Fishing Fair for 3 days lunchtime so lots of baking to do - It was like walking around fairyland - So still and magical following rain - I love that earthy smell, you can feel everything growing. I even whispered good morning to the slugs and snails - Somehow everything was perfect. Boots the Bengal followed me and tiptoed around sniffing the wallflowers and twirling his whiskers - then he spotted a molehill which had arrived overnight, and I left him down there on Mole Duty!

I have not been to Monets Garden but if you can give me the dates - I can let you have other Fairs and Gardens to visit on your route nearer the time. Contrary to the news, we have full petrol tanks and no riots in our area. It is only Paris and Marseilles plus other major cities as usual playing up. Glad to be staying near home though. Motorway Stations are shut. I think President Hollande is glad that he is tucked away in Japan. Talking of which, I have a Japanese Maple, any special care required?

Still do not know how to upload photos onto this site. -Sorry. Technology and I do not get on.

    Have a good w/e and Happy Gardening.image
