Think my plot may have floated away, we've had sever flooding. The powers just come back on, it went down on Saturday. Need to see if I can get to work, the centre of town was flooded yesterday and most of the roads closed.

  • Oh Zoomer, poor you and all the people suffering from the floods, what a time to happen, just before Xmas.We had floods in 2017 but nothing since as they have built some good flood defences and we have not had the rain like before. Thoughts are with you all.

Feeling much better so went to my plot yesterday for a quick look around...3 hrs later, had dug and spread manure on a whole patch, tidied up inside my poly tunnel and picked/pulled up loads of veg for a delicious chicken and allotment veg casserole. Put some Jerusalem artichokes, fennel and parsnip in it. imageimageWheel barrow has a flat tyre so got to get that sorted next.

Glad you like the posts Jo47, hope it gives an insight as to how much time and dedication you need to do this sort of thing. It is good fun though, great exercise and good for your mental well being. I personally found it a good way to meet new people, you cant do that in your own back gardenimage

Thanks everyone, don't think it's over just yet, the power went down again last night, the temp generaters only run for about 10 hrs before they need more oil. The lights haven't gone out this evening but we were expecting it about 6ish so I'm on borrowed time, land lines and mobiles go down to. We've been pooling together and sharing candles and batteries on our street for those who haven't been able to get any.

Some area's haven't got temp power so I've had friends round for a hot wash and a hot meal each day as I have gas. Some bars in town which could open have been serving free hot meals and a big thank you to the Salvation Army, real troopers, they've been serving hot drinks and food in the town centre since Sunday.   .

We've had it light compared to Cumbria, the army and mountain rescue were bringing people into the hospital Sunday morning. Kendal don't have an A&E and most of the roads were cut off at the weekend.

Hope the rain begins to ease of for us both, Jo.

And the link to allotmenteering...in amoungest all this...I had a delivery of chicken wire for the plot...what a bargin....and by candle light have started a growing plan for next yr image

  • Zoomer that is terrible - nice how others are helping and jo47 not good

good about the chicken wire and plans for your plot

Been to the allotment plot today more digging done and took a wire planter that I rescued from the skip pile in the allotment site earlier in the year,  I lined it filled with bulbs and some plants grown from seed on top wallflower, sweet rocket and forget me nots so something to enjoy

When digging out a bramble I bent my fork more so I then used the other fork and found out it was because there was a spike that is used to put a fence post metal thing in the soil
