We have a Gardening for Bristol competition judged usually end of July. beginning of August which is part of the Bristol in Bloom competition which in turn is part of the Britain in Bloom competition run by the RHS.  I have been entering my garden for years and have two framed certificates for Best wildlife Garden and a Siver and a Bronze Award for the front garden.  this year of course i am working hard to get a Gold award in my golden Jubilee year.  It is all great fun and the passers -by love watching my display evolve.  I will take some pictures when complete.  The old tyre got planted up with pelargoniums to match the old baby bath yesterday and i hope to get the wheelbarrow done today but have a dental appointment which gets in the way.somewhat.  I belonged to the Keep Fit Association for years, flumpy 1 so never start my gardening day without a fifteen minute workout of "Stretch, bend, twist".  I can recommend it to keep supple!

Hello Marion, I'm still reading your posts, even if not saying anything. We've been on holiday and had summer visitors.

Good luck with Bristol in Bloom, it would be great to win something in your Jubilee year.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Thank you, flumpy1 and Bizzie-Lizzie.  No excuse for not spending the whole day working in the garden today, magazines all read, no appointments, no shopping needed. forecast for bright and sunny all day.  I do wish there was more rainwater in my butts though!

image Good morning Marion. A cool 17 degrees here this morning so an early start! Have kept in touch with your posts whilst away visiting family - always an enjoyable time, and see that your garden is looking good. Before I went it was a hectic time to get as much as possible in the ground and to finish pruning the weigelia and wisteria - so hot! My good neighbour took care of any necessary watering.

Some photos I took a few weeks ago after the rain

the bees still work over the remaining geraniums and chives, both getting past their best must cut back a few more but hesitate as they keep flowering

Such healthy plants Marion, a credit to you hard work image .

I'm curious to know what cucamelons taste like, not being a veg grower I hadn't heard of them until you spoke of growing them earlier in the year.

That yellow tomatoe is a golden celebration in itselfimage

Cucamelons are supposed to taste of cucumber with a citrus overtone of lemon or lime.  i do like home grown food.  I had a big tomato salad tonight with my fish and chips (well sauteed new potatoes from the garden).

A tasty supper!  I'm hoping to be growing my own soon as sharing an allotment now. Difficult time to be growing vegetables but have managed to get potoes, runner beans and sweet corn in, to work the soil as much as anythink. Hoping to grow winter plants so busily preparing the ground. Hot and hard work! Good news that there could be rain tomorrow evening so wont have to give the garden plants their weekly watering.

Looking at your potenger- you have a lot in that space. Gives me ideas image
