Late flower seeds sown and just in time I think as it has suddenly gone cold and dark. I will play safe and work in the conservatory. Lots of the pelargoniums are showing the colour of their flowers now and need to go outside to be hardened off and repotted into a slightly bigger pot. I should be able to start filling the big containers soon.
It is pouring now and looks like it is here to stay for a bit so a good time to get out my notebook and catch up with my spreadsheets for Mr. Fothergill's Nation of Gardeners trials. I will have a look on the Blog results to remind me what needs filled in. The Charlotte potatoes in open ground have not been harvested yet so cannot compare them with my planter crop yet. But I do have yesterday's date for first ripe tomato!
Hi everyone, back to grey old lancashire, we've just got home to find our hanging baskets and some strawberry plants are dead!, we've only been away six days and I gave them a good soaking before we went ,
Oh such a shame, frumpy1, about your plants. Yes I have had to water some of my strawberry plants as they are on trial for Mr. Fothergill's trials. But the rain we had today has revived quite a lot of drooping plants. The hydrangeas like wet weather.
Thank you, Dovefromabove for letting me know how i could post. Pity I cannot show you my new Angelonia plant bought this morning - a purple one. The weather men would have been astonished at how quickly an 85 year old can run when startled. i was half way up my very long garden when the thunder and lightening simultaneously startled me. i had not heard thunder with my hearing aids in before! So a bit of retail therapy was needed at the flower shop!
Good intentions to post message and photos thwarted by a problem with posting. Now set on basic so at least can respond.
The rain has certainly come at the right time. We have been preparing planters around town over the past few weeks for ' Britain in Bloom' next week. All plants are looking healthy, judging day on Friday. It has been a busy week.
You made me smile with the vision of you dashing for shelter
Photos taken inbetween showers showed the greenery at its best. Where would we be without it as a foil for the flowers.
Flumpy1 I liked the window boxes on your holiday cottage, very pretty. Pity about Bodnant Gardens. I thought it was possible to have a choice of garden, house or both. Disappointing for you.
Hi Flumpy1, no, I just assumed that there was an option. Have just looked online and you are right. I'm sure I've been to a NT places which do ( names escape me at the moment).
Good morning Marion . Decision made to cut back the geraniums as they are leaning on the plants around them. Always feel sad as they have been splendid this spring into summer and now attracting hover flies. Can see new, strong growth from the middle.
Checking on my own wallflower trial ( cut back to see how they flowered) is as expected - healthy growth, smaller flowers, but wanted to see for myself. I will take cuttings now - another trial as never had much success with cuttings before.
The wisteria layering of a whippy growth looks ok, still pegged down.
