    rumwoodnurseries.co.uk

are brilliant for roses and they have great customer service

have also tried dorset perennials which sent good plants and good prices, i think they haven't been selling online long and if you spend £35 it is free delivery

Thanks everyone. Sanjy67 I used Rumwood earlier this year for my Old Blush China rose, and a peony I ordered for someone, and i agree, they were just brilliant. Excellent packaging, delivery and customer service. Just concerned about bulbs. I know bulbs are hard but I still think they need to be packaged with padding, not chucked and knocked about,. J Parkers do look really good - our work garden (rcp London) use them, and so do Regent's Park for their display beds. The only thing with Parkers is that they seem to sell in massive quantities. I don't want 15 bulbs of each variety, 8-10 would suffice. I will have to shop around.

Hi Verdun. I will check Lidl out, not been yet. Only been to Morissons, Wilko and BQ. I did get lovely ones from Wilko - Angelique, Carnival de Nice, Abba, Spring Green! But I want a few other varieties only seem to be online - for example, bunch tulip Happy Family, also Happy Generation and Innuendo or Dreamland (the latter two look very similar and I can't decide lol). We have a big area to plant in and want it to be colourful. These varieties only seem to be online.

Okay I will get that out of head lol. It's only because of the experience with BQ click and collect - honestly those ones were in a messy state and even broken in half.

The place to get proper hoice is online wakeshine, unless you're lucky enough to have a good GC or nursery nearby. The supermarkets and diy stores will only stock popular varieties and a limited range. There are hundreds of varieties of tulip and narcissus, for instance. The only problem is, once you start looking, the list gets longer....image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I know Fairygirl, buying plants is so addictive! There are soooo many varieties. I have restrict myself image

  • For the record, I've just received a parcel of bulbs from J Parkers. They were in unpadded bags in a small cardboard box with crumpled paper to fill the empty space at the top. They all arrived in very good condition. Now I just need to wait until there's enough rain to soften my clay soil so that I can get a trowel or bulb planter in deep enough to actually plant them!

    Thanks for that singing gardener

  • I've had good experiences with Wilko, Suttons and T&M for bulbs and seeds, but I won't buy plants from T&M again.

And, although I know others have had positive experiences buying from Secret Garden, I would say mine have been mixed. Got 6 pyracantha from them recently and they were in very good nick and reasonably priced, but other orders have been a bit of a mess - I presume it comes down to who delivers them locally.

I also like Sarah Raven. I only ever get stuff in the sale, as its very overpriced IMO, but it's always been well packaged and the plants are good quality even though they've obviously been hanging around all season! My SR sweetpea seeds kept getting dug up by squirrels, but did try their best to grow and flower. I love how they present everything, I'm a sucker for good marketing!

Lidl and Morrisons - particularly the latter, had some really lovely plants this year. My local B&Q and Wyevale, on the other hand, should both be charged with crimes against horticulture image
