I hadn't, but they look very lifelike..

The big dandelions at Trentham are 5m tall, and the heads a metre across. My allium head is about a foot across the head.

What do you think to the ducks hairdo?

Is it real, Fidget? Never seen a white duck with a hairdo like that! Cute.

I think it must be an escapee. There are apparently fancies like this that are bred for show. It seems to have settled amongst all the mallards on the canal. The mottled one is a bit of a mystery.

  • Evening all, I haven't been on the forum for a while so thought I'd share a couple of photos. We went on the new cruise ship Britannia in September to Norway. There is a wonderful Tropical Island Garden we visited near Stavanger. Here are a few pics of it:

Lovely photo John H. Also like the one on your avatar. My garden is never going to look as well kept as yours, so it's good to see others that are. Your Norwegian trip sounds as though it was very satisfying.

Some cracking pics there, John - well worth posting!  Norway's a lovely place - I was there 15 years ago, but further north.  No idea there were gardens like that though.  They do get a good long growing season - 24hr daylight for much of the summer.

  • Stavanger benefits from the Gulf Stream which enables the owners of the island to do what they do. In the Autumn they dig up all the plants and transfer them to a heated warehouse in Stavanger, then put them all back in the Spring. The island is about 20 mins ride in a jet boat from the main harbour terminal in Stavanger and is run by just 1 family and a couple of volunteers. It's incredible what they have managed to achieve - especially as it was essentially a bare rock less than 50 years ago.
