Not sure about the overexposed ones, Ann. Normally when you opt for 'shutter priority', the rest of the camera i.e. aperture, ISO & white balance will remain automatic.
However, if you choose a shutter speed that is way too slow and the camera can't find other compatible settings, the chosen shutter speed will show up in red on your camera display.....and of course isn't advisable to take the shot.
Good exercise and the result for a first effort is marvellous.
PS. I would just add that I have a mini tripod, but found that it wasn't really suitable for my Fuji..... i.e. it was too heavy & tended to topple over.

playing up again David the camera was on shutter priority i took pictures right through from 3" up to 1/13 the last four were the best
